Chemical Set Up Procedure For Spa Hot tub Water As a general rule always add a few small amounts of chemical to the spa or hot tub rather than one large amount. This will prevent over dosing.
Total Alkalinity 1) Take test strip from tube and dip in the water. 2) Remove strip from water and hold horizontally for ten seconds, (do not shake water off strip.) 3) Test colour against the scale on the test strip tube. 4) If adjustment is required upwards check amount to be added by looking at the table on the back of balance pack 100. If adjustment is required to lower add Lo 'n' Slo 5) Add the required amount of Balance Pak 100 or Lo 'n' Slo to a container of water 6) Mix and add to the spa with jets running. Leave to mix for two minutes and then retest. 7) When the levels within 120 to 150 move onto pH adjustment.
PH 1) Take test strip from the tube and dip in the water. 2) Remove strip from water and hold horizontally for ten seconds, (do not shake water off the strip.) 3) Test the colour against the scale on the test strip tube, 7.4 to 7.6 is the ideal. 4) If adjustment is required up add Balance Pak 200 as required. If adjustment is required down use Lo 'n' Slo as directed on bottle. 5) Add the required amount to a container of water and mix. Add to the spa with jets running. Leave to mix for two minutes and then retest.
Chlorine / Bromine 1) Decide which chemical you are using to sanitise the spa / hot tub 2) Take test strip from the tube and dip in the water. 3) Remove strip from water and hold horizontally for ten seconds, (do not shake water off the strip.) 4) Test the colour against the scale on test strip tube, 1 to 3 chlorine, 1 to 5 bromine is the ideal. 5) If adjustment is needed add required amount direct to the spa with the jets running for two minutes. 6) Retest spa.
Oxidising The importance of regularly oxidising your spa can not be overstated, Spa Lite is a shock treatment that should be used when water is looking cloudy after heavy use or as a once every two weeks treatment to keep the water fresh.
1) Set the jets going. 2) Take the appropriate amount of Spa Lite (½ packet for 850 ltrs) and sprinkle on the surface of the water. 3) Leave the jets running for at least 20 minutes. 4) Do not add chlorine / bromine at this point as the spa lite will reactivate unused chlorine in the water.
Filter Cleaning 1) Dissolve ½ a packet of Filter Brite in a bucket of water. 2) Remove the filters from the spa. Remember to switch off the spa if you are not replacing the filters immediately with clean filters. 3) Remove any debris from the surface of the filter with a hose. 4) Leave the filters to soak in the solution for at least 8 hours. 5) Hose the solution off the filters by spraying water from the inside of the filter. 6) Clean between each of the pleats with the hose pipe. 7) If two sets of filters are used leave cleaned pair to dry. If only one set is being used replace cleaned set in the spa and turn back on.
